Desktop Calendar Class - January 2011

I'm planning a desktop calendar class for January 22, 2011. Here's a couple of the pages we will be doing. The class will start @ 10 am and finish sometime in the afternoon, depending on how fast you scrap. You'll have the choice to start your calendar with January 2011 or end with January 2012 (since January 2011 will be almost over when we do the class)

This is how it's going to work. There will be 6 hosts, you will start at the first host's house and complete two months of your calendar. You will then move to the next house and complete two more months and so forth until you have been to all 6 locations and have a 12-month desktop calendar. The calendar will be 5 1/2 X 8 1/2, just the right size for display in your home or at your office or maybe you want to give it as a gift.

The calendar blank will be given to you at the first location and all the scrapbook materials will be ready for you at each location. You will need to bring basic tools (scissors, adhesive and such). If you need to bring anything else for the class you will be notified in plenty of time before class. In addition, for those of you that want to add pictures while you scrap, I will have photos sizes for each month so you can plan accordingly.

If this sounds fun then you need to reserve your spot by sending a $10 deposit (this will cover the cost of the calendar blank that I will be ordering in the next 2 weeks). Due to the size of some of our hosts homes (mine), space will be limited so you'll want to decide quickly. As with all my classes, if you can't make the date and still want the kit, you just need to let me know and provide your full payment 2 weeks prior to the class.

Class cost: $25 ($10 deposit to reserve your seat + $15 due the day of the class)

Seven Dwarfs Album

Over a year ago I promised I would post the album that I made for the Scrapbook Station. I'm finally getting the job done. Sorry it has taken me so long.

I used an album in a box by Melissa Francis and painted the entire box and album. After it dries you can go ahead and start making your album.

This is the lid of the box.

I would suggest that you lay your album in your box, so that you can easily see where you should start. I put Doc on the first flap and then when you lift the accordion album out of the box the other six dwarfs are all on the opposite side of Doc. In other words, Doc is on one side and if you turn the album over, you'll see all the other dwarfs. The pictures below show the order I have them in, but you could mix them around without having too much of a problem. "Happy" needs to be last if you use the same wording that I have on each page. Have fun making this album, its one of those projects that's all fun. Other things I did...... I inked the edges of the paper before adhering and I set 3 eyelets in each page (as you can see the first page has 6, 3 on each side, because "Doc" is on one side and "Sleepy" is on the back side.

November & December Recipe Pages

I can't believe we are wrapping up another year of recipe class. We finished a little early this year, as I didn't want to compete with Christmas parties for meeting space. This year seemed to fly by, I can't believe we finished our 4th recipe album. Thanks to all of you that sign-up each year. I just love making these pages and getting a chance to get together once a month to visit and catch up with all of you.

Here's December's page:

There aren't any real tricks to this page. I gave you a full piece of gold paper in your kit. Use this sheet to build the page. The "Bo-Bunny" paper with the winter snowflakes needs to have a 1-1/4 inch strip cut so that you can adhere the smaller strip to the bottom of the page and the larger strip to the top of the page. The rest of the paper is layered as you see it. You'll have an extra piece of red to use for matting your word "Christmas" and "favorite". I popped those off of the page using foam tape. The "grungeboard" circles are inked with red prior to adhering to the page.

November Recipe Page:

I don't think you'll have any problems with this page. You'll want to watercolor your chef and cut out his pants to adhere to the stamped image. The frame (measuring 3-1/2 inches square on the outside edge and 1/2 inch in thickness) is cut from the scraps that you'll have when you cut the recipe down to measure 7 X 7. I inked the edge with brown and adhered it to your diagonal plaid that measures 8 X 8. As a last embellishment you'll need to set your three metal buttons in the upper right hand corner.

Here Comes Santa Claus Holiday Workshop

Santa’s Elves have been busy again this year planning a day of fun for you. Renee and Melisa would like to extend an invitation for you to join them for a fun filled day of holiday cheer and entertainment.

The workshop will be filled with projects you can either complete for yourself or give as gifts, you decide.

September and October Recipes Pages

Marinated Mushrooms, yummy! This recipe has lots of flavor with all the herbs to season those tasty little morsels. When you get your kit, you'll see that all of the words and herbs are on one sheet of paper and you'll be cutting them out to use on this page. I used green ink to embellish the edge of the background paper and recipe card. This is one of those pages where you can let the creativity flow....enjoy.

How many times have you heard, "What's for Dinner?" Well, I know my mom would tell you, "too many to count!" I had lots of fun with this page. I used my new 12-inch revolution platform to cut the tri-colored braid that runs down the left side of the page. You'll need to do the braiding when you get your kit. The letters for "dinner" are included in your kit, but will need to be punched out using a circle punch (I used varying sizes, as the letters are different sizes) and then I sanded the edges to expose the white core. I inked the small tag with a matching green and wrote the words, "what's for". Recipe cards are all on one sheet of paper that you will need to cut apart. I have included the recipes, but you'll need to do your own copying of the recipes onto the cards, then pick your favorite to adhere to the front of the pocket and tuck the remaining cards into the top of the pocket. This is really fun paper, I hope you like it as much as I did when I found it!

July and August Recipe Pages

We had lots of fun at recipe class last night and will be having a repeat performance again tonight. Here are the pages we did last night. We are getting a little ahead of ourselves because I'm anticipating difficulty in reserving a room in late November, early December. So, we will be doing July and August pages this month. Next month we will be doing September and October and then we won't be meeting again until October (skipping September).

July Page

This page won't take you very long to make, but I think you'll love it. Besides, it will give you more time to prepare your salmon for grilling. I'll be honest, I haven't made this recipe. I got it from a family member and everyone that eats salmon raves about it. I don't eat salmon, but I did try a bite and it had good flavor, for salmon! I don't think there are too many tricks to the page. As you can see I tore edges and inked the recipe using a dark blue ink. I tied ribbons through the bottom of the metal arrow, making it look like a rocket. The rhinestones are adhesive-backed, but you'll need to cut through the adhesive if you want to space them as shown in the picture.

August Page

I hope you like watermelon.........

Hints for this page: Cut around all the stamped images. The pink fleshy part of the watermelon is adhered to the green rind, in other words, don't cut out the rind, leave the inside so you can glue the pink to the green. The recipe cards are cut 3X5 and the vellum envelope is attached using four brads. You'll need to tie the ribbon through the metal charm in your kit (they are not all the same, but it will either have to do with cooking or summer picnics) and then glue dot it onto the page.

I think you'll really like this casserole. It's easy, filling and different for a change.

Hints for This Page: I used "blue iris" chalk ink and inked everything but the paper circles. I used two strands of floss on the buttons, you'll need to separate your floss. Layer your paper first, adhere the recipe and ribbon. Next arrange your paper circles and then glue dot the buttons. Add the stars as your last step.

This is a very healthy lasagna that will fill you up, make you feel like you're getting away with something and freezes well into individual servings.

Hints for this page: I used "olive pastel" chalk ink for this page. I tore the right edges of the blue cardstock and the blue floral. Tear the blue floral carefully, as you will use the backside of the piece you tore off as the green on the far left side of the page. The stickers are backed on blue cardstock and the sticker placed on the left edge of the recipe is popped-up using foam tape. In the lower left corner I set six eyelets. The first three are set at the deepest setting the crop-a-dile will go and then second set of three is half of the first distance. Each ribbon is knotted.

This is my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. I hardly ever make them because I can't stay out of them. Just too good to leave alone!

Hints for this page: The printed paper is your background and the purple cardstock is a 1/2 inch smaller, leaving a 1/4 inch border all the way around. The recipe is matted onto the printed paper and you have a smaller green piece that you will adhere to the bottom of the printed recipe. There is a seam, but it will be hidden by the lavender strip. Tear the top and bottom edges of the lavender strip before adhering.

January

January's page is a recipe for Key West Chicken. I use this recipe a lot in the summer. I like to barbeque and this recipe is a good one for the grill and it's really pretty healthy. There's lots of steps to this page so I'll try to give you the best directions I can.

1) Layer your paper on the background paper which is an orange floral. You have a solid orange that goes down the left side, bottom. Next to it you have a lime green and an aqua blue. Above those is a brown and above those is a small lime green and a second aqua piece.

2) Place the 3 polka dots strips as shown in the picture (lower left, upper left and upper right).

3) Cut the flocked flower into 2 pieces, making one larger than the other. Place the large one on the left edge and the smaller one on the right bottom edge.

4) Use rub-on numbers to number the steps in the directions of the recipe. Cut out and adhere to page.

5) Attach paper circles to metal charms. Glue dot ribbon behind, folding in half to make a loop. Attach to page with foam tape or glue dots.

This recipe came from a friend of mine and boy does it come in handy when you need something ready when you get home from work. French dip sandwiches, where the meat cooks all day in the crock pot. YUM!

Hints for this Page: White cardstock is your background and you have two strips of paper that you adhere to the left and right edges of the page. I inked the edges of the recipe with spiced marmalade (Tim Holtz Distressing Ink), tied the twine around the bottom and adhered it to the page. There are 12 circles to adhere, I hung them over the top and bottom edge to make it look as though they were part of the print on the page. Two of the circles have added embellishment in the center of them. The title of the recipe (French Dip Sandwiches) is printed on the hot pink paper. You'll need to punch those out and adhere to the left and right sides of the printed recipe.

Recipe Class 2008 - The Title Page

Well, we are back at it. Recipe class is meeting again. There are 15 ladies that have joined the 2008 class. We meet monthly or thereabouts at Hamley. Can you believe it? We are scrappin' at Hamley. They have generously offered one of their conference rooms and so far I think it's working out pretty good.

The year's theme is "Potluck", which means I will be selecting recipes from all categories. I thought it was only appropriate that I create a page with a spinner on it with the different categories we will be scrapping this year. Thanks everyone for your continued dedication. This is a class that is very near and dear to my heart and I'm happy all of you want to take it.

Hints for Title Page: You have two wheels in your kit. The first is on white cardstock. All you need to do is cut out the circle. This will be your base for building your colorful wheel. The second wheel is a photocopy and the wedges have numbers. You need to cut out the wedges, cutting off the categories. You will then use these 8 pieces as patterns to trace on the back of your printed pieces of paper in your kit. I numbered them because they will line up better if you put them in numerical order.

October, November & December Recipe Pages

October's page features a recipe called "Copper Carrots". It is one of my favorites. The background page is cut from the "celebrate" paper. I cut an equal amount off of all 4 sides so that I could utilize the pattern. The orange Bazzill paper is cut 6 3/4 inch square for those of you that are making 8 inch pages. I adhered it in the bottom right corner rather than centering it on the page. I inked the edge of the recipe circle with brown ink. I added stitching with a brown writer pen and when you put your tacks into the page use something squishy (like a mouse pad) to push into and then bend the points over on the back side with your scissor handle.
The November page is relatively easy to assemble, but save your scraps - you'll need them for the rectangles with written words or phrases. I used the darker side of the rust-red Chatterbox cardstock as the background. I backed 3 of the 4 rectangles and popped them up with foam tape. I didn't pop up the "family favorite" square.
My December page was designed to look like a wrapped package and the recipe is the tag. I inked the edge of the recipe tag. The ribbon is actually 3 separate pieces. Two of them are glued down and the third is tied into a bow and glue dotted onto the top of the tag to make it appear as if it was tied onto the page. I added a metal charm and three "Christmas" clips with cute little phrases.

September Recipe Page - just in time!

Let'r Buck with this Western Bean Salad.

This page will go together quick. I borrowed a stamp set from Peggy Sauvie called "lovely buckles". It's a fun set and has lots of variation to choose from.

When making the page here are a few tips:

ink the edges of the recipe ingredients, directions and "western" block title with brown ink
you have 2 stamped images of the belt, use one to cut apart to make the belt behind the tail
crumple the second stamped belt image to give it a more rustic look (you'll want to trim around it first)
pop up the silver buckle with foam tape, pop up dots or some other dimensional adhesive

August Recipe Page - finally......

Sorry it took so long. Time really got away from me this summer. Hope you enjoy the page and you should give the recipe a try too.

Here are a few hints when making this page:

1) the background is created with the blue swirl and red floral - save your scraps, you'll need them!
2) recipe block measures 3 1/8 X 3 5/8, stripe print block measures 3 1/8 X 1 1/2, title block measures 3 1/8 X 2 1/2 and the diagonal print block measures 3 1/8 X 2 3/4.
3) ink the edges with red

July Recipe Page

Well, it's still July and I finally got this ready to post for all of you. I think this salad is one that could help cool you off in this lovely heat that we have been experiencing.

When making this page here are a few tips.
1) Mickey and Minnie are popped up from the page. I used foam tape.
2) White cardstock is the background and the black is covering the bottom half of the page.
3) I used a black pen to add stitch marks around the recipe and there is a spiral clip off to the left, next to Mickey.

FACES I LOVE ALBUM

Well, I'm finally getting this posted for those of you that bought the kit and didn't get a chance to come in the store and finish your kit.

You will need to cut the following pieces of paper:

1 - 6 X 8 inch piece (lid)
2 - 1-1/2 X 12 inch pieces (outside of box)- should be out of the same print
12 - 3 X 6 inch pieces (album pages) - random patterns

When covering the lid glue the top down. Then make a cut straight in toward the top of the lid at each corner (8 total). Glue the 4 diagonal corners first, then the 4 remaining sides. Cut the paper flush with the bottom each of the lid. NOTE: You don't want to fold it under because your lid won't fit properly. Glue ric rac around the edge of lid.

Wrap the outside of your box with paper. You'll have excess from the second piece that you will need to trim. NOTE: My box lid was a little loose so I wrapped a third and fourth piece of blue paper measuring 3/4 inch around the box at the top.

Glue your first 6 pieces of paper to your album, wrapping the corners around the edge and adhering. Cover the back side of the album with the remaining 6 pieces of printed paper, but this time you will want to trim your edges flush with the corners.

This album will hold 12 wallet sized photos. Use photos to embellish your album.

52 Reasons I Love You -Dad!!!!

I finished the album, only a week late. I had lots of fun with the project.
Just a deck of cards and a box of scrap paper, a little stamping and a few embellishments later I have a mini album with 52 reasons I love my Dad.
Everyone should try this one. It's lots of fun and you can embellish as much or as little as you want.

I even went and dug up some old buttons and charms, what fun - using up my scraps!

1. The first sheet of cardstock will be used for the outside of the box (I used light blue). Score the cardstock at 4 inches on all 4 sides. Make a diagonal score line through the center of the 4 corner squares. Fold all score lines so that the texture of the paper is to the outside.

2. Second sheet of cardstock (I used red) - cut to 11 X 11 inches, score at 3 3/4 inches on all 4 sides and cut out the 4 corners. Glue the center only to the inside center of the first piece.

3. Third sheet of cardstock (I used dark blue), cut to 10 1/2 X 10 1/2 inches and scored at 3 1/2 inches on all 4 sides. Cut only one side of the corner squares and fold over to create a pocket. Note: front of pocket should be textured. Glue bottom and open edge to make pocket. ( I cut the front of the pocket at an angle before I applied the glue. Once the pockets are created the piece can be glued in the center on top of the first and second pieces.

Box top:

1. With wrong side up, draw 2 diagnal lines to locate the center of the 12 X 12 piece of paper. Fold all four corners into the center of the sheet. Leaving these folds in place, fold one entire side and then the adjacent side into the center. Be sure to make a good crisp fold. Then unfold and repeat with the remaining two sides. Unfold paper completely.

2. At one corner you are are going to make some cuts. First locate the first score line as you go up the left side of one corner of the paper. Next you are going to cut this score line up through the first crossing score line and up to the next score line and then stopping. You will have a triangle piece that is attched by one side at a score line. Now cut this side on the score line and remove the triangle. Repeat this entire step on the same corner, but now on the right side.

3. Repeat the entire step 2 with the corner that is adjecant from the first corner you selected.

4. Fold corners that have not been cut in at score lines and adhere. Fold in the sides of box that were created when you made your cuts in steps 2 & 3 and fold in remaining 2 corners at score lines. Box top should have taken shape and in the inside of the box top all four corners came together and have been adhered.

5. Embellish like crazy. Paper flowers are stacked on top of the box with a brad through the top of the box. Ribbon is wrapped twice around the lid and tied. Epoxy sticker is adhere to cardstock, cut out and hole punched. Metal ring is attached and then hung from the ribbon on the box top.

"My Wish" Album

I have posted these pictures for you to use to complete your class kits. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you run into any problems when making your album.

Hint: I would lay the entire kit out into piles for each page. This way you know you are using the correct piece of red cardstock. Some of the embossed pieces are the same pattern, but different sizes, depending on the length of the verse for that page. Be careful as some of the embossed papers will want to stick together because they were embossed two at a time.

Pages are made from both side of the black chipboard. So when you complete a right hand page you will be turning it to create the next page.

The front and back covers are canvas boards. Cover with paper, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges that folds to the backside of the canvas board. The front cover has a flower rubon and is popped up with foam tape. Stitching has been done with a cream paint pen.

Inside Cover and Page 1 - Adhere the red pazzill papers to the inside front and back covers. Using a black chipboard page, adhere the four printed papers randomly on the page. Use photo for placement of cardstock with the words "My Wish" adhered to it. Add red photo corners. Embellish edges with paint pen.

Pages 2 & 3 - The embossed papers have matching patterns. Some of the words have been embellished. The picture doesn't show it, but the word "moments" has been spelled using clear stickers on red cardstock. The 3 snaps on the right side were put on using a crop-a-dile and then popped up with foam tape. Embellish edges with paint pen.

Pages 4 & 5 - Embossed pattern is a script pattern. Make sure you notice the placement of the papers so you can vary the paint pen embellishment around the edges.

Pages 6 & 7 - The cardstock flower has a large brad through the center. I glued the flower on rather than making a hole through the chipboard.

Pages 8 & 9 - The ribbon is wrapped all the way around the red cardstock before adhering. Small silver brads are in the centers of the cardstock flowers.

Pages 10 & 11 - The stickers are used to spell the words "big" and "small". Red ribbon is tied to each of the spiral clips.

Pages 12 & 13 - Three red flowers with small cardstock flowers and silver brads in the center of each. Notice there is a small verse (Yeah, this, is My Wish) adhered to the right page in the lower right corner.

Pages 14 & 15 - Bronze metal flower with brad center is adhered to red cardstock before cardstock is adhered to page.

Pages 16 & 17 - Large cordaroy brad through cardstock flower.

Pages 18 & 19 - Ribbon is cut flush with top and bottom of patterned paper rather than going around the back.
